Fungal microbial fuel cell dedicated to the bioremediation of organics micropollutants in mixtures: comparison between isolated molecules and mixtures |
|
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله |
Abstract In this proposal, we intend to investigate the effectiveness of a dual-chamber fungal microbial fuel cell (FMFC) device for bioremediation of pharmaceutical drugs and dyes as well as electricity production. The system used is comprised of two compartments, anode and cathode, separated by a high performance cation exchange membrane. Both bioanode and biocathode are made from carbon materials (Carbon felt (CF) and/or carbon cloth (CC)). The pure culture of the fungal biofilm of Trichoderma harzianum, an ascomycota, will be used as bioanodes in a not dearated anodic chamber. The biocathode is loaded with the pure fungal biofilm of Trametes trogii, a basidiomycota wellknown to catalyze the ORR. Electrochemical tools will be performed to investigate the behavior of the degradation of pharmaceutical drugs and dyes in FMFC, alone and in mixture. These components can greatly boost the efficiency of FMFC and provide an effective tool for bioremediation as well as a cost-effective and renewable source of energy. Microorganisms catalyze the oxidation of carbon-containing organic matter by applying multiple enzymes and producing electrons that flow from the anode to the cathode via the external circuit, creating the current. The microorganisms are of great advantage as they can be regenerated, resulting in a lower cost compared to chemical materials. In addition, no harmful by-products or waste are produced during the degradation process, which makes FMFCs an environmentally friendly energy generation decentralized process. The critical parameters affecting bioremediation and bioelectricity generation by the designed FMFCs will be discussed in this proposal. The findings can provide a roadmap for future investors in order to address the global energy crisis and water pollution issues. |
